Grinders are often used in the cheesemaking industry to reduce large blocks and barrels of cheese into smaller pieces for blending and/or cooking. Rotating augers force the cheese through a headplate containing holes which can range in size from 1/8 inch to 1 inch or larger.
Grinders are not to be confused with shredders. Shredded cheese is a sellable consumer product. Ground cheese is not.
